Our sixth vintage of the esoteric Italian varietal Vermentino albeit with a Californian twist—has reached its stride in the vineyard, full stop. Originally hailing from coastal Tuscany and Sardinia, it embodies a unique expression from its perch nestled in the volcanic soils of the Sierra foothills. We harvest at night, gently whole-cluster-press, and ferment in stainless steel, all to retain freshness. To add a touch of roundness to the wine, we age briefly sur lie. The resulting wine is of a brilliant lemon hue with hints of chartreuse at the meniscus, teeming with tropical aromatic notes — from green papaya to mango and nascent pineapple and a burst of sea spray. The palate gives way to a rich palette of citrus flavors from zest to fresh juice, bursting with flavor, this mouthwatering wine is nothing short of exuberant with a personality truly its own.
Winemaking
Whole cluster pressed, fermented in stainless steel, aged sur lie for seven months.
Food Pairing
This wine pairs happily with any apt Tuesday and a nice miso-glazed black cod or your favorite fare of the sea!

Casino Mine Ranch is an estate vineyard located in the Sierra Foothills of Amador County. The winery - a century-old ranch that was once mined for gold — is owned and managed by fourth-generation California brothers, Jim and Rich Merryman.
The vineyard is planted and farmed to best harness the potential of the site, through thoughtfully selected grape varietals. In keeping with the family’s pioneering spirit, the Merrymans partnered with the highly acclaimed winemaking team of Andy Erickson and Jessica Tarpy who share a passion for great wines from special sites. Together with their commitment to hard work, connection to the land, and passion to produce the best wine possible they are pursuing a legacy that honors the history, family, and the land.
We invite you to visit our Amador County ranch. You can taste our rare and exceptional wines in our private cellar, and you can step into our wine cave, originally carved out by miners.
“This is Gold Country. So there are all these great mineral deposits: Quartz that sparkles, volcanic rock, and ash. And the wine caves—these are not Napa Valley caves—are former mine caves, carved out of the hills.” Andy Erickson, Consulting Winemaker

Ordered this offering when it was available back in October. Served it at our New Year’s celebration and a dinner party. Folks really seemed to love it. Would describe it as a “no thinker drinker.” Just a really nice white wine.
The 2020 Casino Mine Ranch Vermentino opens with a pleasing and true to the variety aroma full of lemon and tropical fruit plus honeysuckle and other touches. It’s a very nice start.
Taking a sip reveals the wine to be juicy and a bit tangy with similar flavors to the nose. With nice vibrancy and depth, this is refreshing and easy to drink.
It ends with a dry, tangy, mouthwatering, lip-puckering finish just as you would expect with this variety. This is quite tasty! Taste: 8 (89-90 points) Cost: 7, Overall Rating: 7.8, Highly Recommended
No room in the wine storage, but that doesn’t mean I’m not ordering 6 bottles. I’ll just have to drink 6 bottles I have in stock to make room for it!

A UPS shipping order came through the email on Monday. Bottle arrived just now, opened the box, popped the cork and am currently sipping it within five minutes from the Brown Van dropping it off. And so, when duty calls, I respond. Emergency lab rat reporting for duty!
The wine is 65 degrees.
Upon first sniff, the nose is quite inviting. Tropical hints to be sure with pronounced pineapple and a dash of peach and ripe papaya.
The color is lemony or like light hay.
On the palate is citrus and is delicious. This wine is super crushable! I can envision this on a patio in the summer with some chilled seafood… Sounds like heaven!
I put it in the fridge so I can make dinner. I’m going to thaw some shrimp and make up some curry or something to hopefully go along with the wine. I’ll report back here in a bit!
Okay, just got done with dinner. I grilled some shrimp and then made Yumm! Bowls (it’s an Oregon thing where they make this amazing sauce and put it on rice with veggies and stuff). I would say the wine was amazing (and a little colder from the fridge) with the shrimp, but was lost with all the ingredients in the bowl. Still love the idea of the spring/summer and a porch and some delicate seafood. But, it’s also awesome on its own. Buying myself a case to put in the cellar and wait for warmer weather. Buy with reckless abandon!
This winery is down the street and across from me. I’m impressed with the quality of all their wines. They also have a wonderful tasting room and picnic area on a lake.
You won’t be disappointed. Cheers, Scott
So I received a bottle today at 5:30 pm and thought it was a shipment from casemates until I looked at the details to see that it was 4 lbs. i knew it was a Rat bottle. So technically a casemates shipment… But too late to the party. Have not tasted this vintage but the 2021 case I bought in October is delicious and I immediately got in for a case of the 2020. Kinda confused why they sold the 2021 several months ago and now selling off the year prior. but nonetheless its delicious and cheap so im in. Still confused why I received a bottle today with no email stating that i would be a rat.

This is one of my favorite casemates whites. We served it at our wedding, so I usually get a hall pass when it comes up too.

@ScottHarveyWine I agree Scott! I love what Casino Mine has been doing in our neighborhood. This should be an automatic buy for anyone.
@NocetoGarrett @ScottHarveyWine @winedavid59
So where are they?
Why are they not here?
The two of you always make offers interesting; and pick my pocket in doing so…
Noceto just arrived today; thanks!
