2019 Clos Troteligotte K-or Malbec, Cahors, France
“The wine is rich with a dusty tannic character. It has black-currant flavors that are packed with both fruitiness and balanced acidity. The organic grapes give a pure line of ripe fruits that are going to integrate well with the tannins.” – Wine Enthusiast
K-Or is the most obviously mineral wine in winemaker Emmanuel Rybinski’s lineup. Grapes are harvested early for appellation standards and fermented/aged in unlined concrete squares (Emmanuel makes the point that he prefers to have living biology present on the walls of his vessels). Emmanuel paints the K on the label here red because he cherishes the “bloody” aromas this wine gives off upon opening.

Emmanuel Rybinski, is without question, the most forward thinking producer in Cahors and runs this spectacular property. Clos Troteligotte roughly translates to “Land of the Doves,” and this ten-acre estate sits atop an iron rich plateau (much of the iron present here is so pure it could be sold for smelting!). Stylistically Emmanuel’s wines straddle the line between old and new Cahors. Farming is certified organic by ECOCERT FRBIO. Winemaking is natural, without additives and results in vibrant fruit in the glass. The iron soil components offer striking minerality. The young Rybinski family “lives off of the land” in a literal sense, farming all their own fruits/vegetables on site, growing their own grains and crushing them with a homemade windmill, raising their own livestock, managing their own forest for heating/cooking, and even growing hemp for clothing and insulation purposes!

WHEE it’s Friday! …I meant WE: 88 points. Aged in tanks, this pure Malbec wine shows structured fruits, crisp acidity and a dry core. Fruitiness is the key to its immediate attractiveness, but it will take a short while more to be ready. Wait until late 2021. Organic. — Roger Voss. 4/1/21
ok, here’s a name we haven’t dug ip in a while…perhaps for good reason? ha!
Natalie Maclean: 90 points. From Cahors, Southwest wine region, Clos Troteligotte K-Or 2019 Malbec is great value under $20. A dry, robust, 100% Malbec fresh and intense with blackberry, black currant, blueberry, black cherry, underbrush and Christmas cake spice flavours balanced with vibrant acidity and sporting terrific tannins. Decant one hour prior to pouring with a smoky braised beef brisket. Wine grapes were organically grown on winemaker, Emmanuel Rybinski’s, 10-acre estate in the Cahors wine region. In 2005, the operation was classified under sustainable agriculture and in January 2014, Clos Troteligotte was certified organic. Drink or hold 2022 - 2028

time to warm up the machine, I’m behind… any operator errors can be attributed to lack of caffeine…
This Malbec was good and very representative of a classic Malbec. Very dark purple color. Smells of tart cherry, a little currant, a little leather. We didn’t get too many secondary notes, mainly the tart cherry on both smell and taste. I would almost say like a cherry/strawberry rhubarb. My wife said it was jammy and tart. I did think u also got a little cocoa on the second glass about 2 hours after opening. The wine didn’t last a second night. Overall the wine was great for the price and if you like this varietal, a great option. Pictures to come but I have to run to an appointment. Thanks for the opportunity as always, my wife and I both guess the 25ish range for msrp
