About The Winery
Tooth & Nail Wine Co.
Owner: Rob Murray
Location: Paso Robles
Rob Murray grew up on a family farm in the Central Valley and followed his destiny to California’s Central Coast, where he learned winegrowing from the ground up. It was only after years in the vineyard trenches that Rob felt called to start his own winery – building upon everything he’d learned and mastered in the field. Into this mix he brought his love for art, music, and culture, producing wines and label designs that stir conversation. Rob’s unique backstory sets the tone for Tooth & Nail. He is the visionary and the vibe behind everything we are today.
Sustainably grown in Paso Robles, CA
This is about more than tomorrow. It’s about the future. It begins locally by operating within the bounds of our native resources here on California’s Central Coast. And it extends globally, as we do our part to be a positive force in the world. We farm sustainably because we love the soil, water, and climate that provide everything we need. Each Tooth & Nail wine respects the cosmic power of these natural elements.
“We want to create a whole new set of expectations and possibilities for every generation of wine drinker.” Rob Murray, grower and founder

We opened this bottle while having friends over to watch the World Cup. The crowd included a few people who don’t typically drink much wine, which always makes for an interesting test. Sometimes the wine enthusiasts love a bottle while everyone else reaches for a beer. That wasn’t the case here.
The first thing we noticed was the aroma. This wine has a bold nose that lets you know it’s a Paso red. One friend summed it up perfectly: “bold smell, smooth taste.” We all agreed. Despite the bigger aromas, the wine was approachable and easy to drink from the first glass to the last.
The wine paired surprisingly well with everything we had out for the game. Between burgers, pizza, and a charcuterie board, there was plenty of variety, and the Frestón seemed comfortable alongside all of it. It had enough character to stand up to the food without overpowering it.
Perhaps the biggest compliment we can give this wine is that it appealed to everyone. The regular wine drinkers enjoyed it, but so did the guests who don’t usually reach for a glass of red. By the end of the night, the bottle was gone and the feedback was universally positive.
We’ve had plenty of Paso red blends over the years, and this one reminded us why the region has become such a reliable source of crowd-pleasing wines. We’d happily open another bottle for a future game night.

The post and review say Paso Robles, but AFAIK neither Santa Maria Valley nor Los Olivos District are within the Paso Robles AVA.
2023 Tooth & Nail Cab is up on MEH
@dawnlac Is it good? Never heard of it.
Rob Murray, are you any relation to Andrew Murray?
A question for the masses in the group that know more than me.
Does the M in GSM always mean Mourvèdre? Or does it sometimes mean Merlot?
@winecaseaholic
According to Google I see only Mourvèdre, but over the years I thought I’ve seen Merlot listed instead.
