Ahhh Saturday, temp is cooling down and a new machine is warming up…but that is no one cares useless info and here is some more…(maybe not totally useless info, cooling down means shipping wine season right?)
Ok here y’all go…RWS…The 2021 Donati Family Vineyards Claret opens with a very pleasing aroma of black cherry and blackberry plus a little cedar, baking spice, vanilla and licorice. It’s a lovely start!
The wine tastes smooth, fruity, juicy and amazingly good. It features soft tannins and similar fruit flavors to the nose with well-integrated spice notes to round things out. Very nicely balanced and quite smooth, this is a fantastic blend that is super easy to drink. It’s definitely a crowd-pleasing wine but still has a good amount of complexity as well.
It ends with a dry, very long and slightly chewy finish. It was just as good on day 2.
Whatever you want to call it, this is one tasty red blend! And with a (RWS) score of 92-93 points, we liked it quite a bit more than another popular Claret from Coppola. 8/27/25
This is a bit of a price increase from last casemates offer. Previous was $56.99 for 4, $129.99 box of 12.

Got a wonderful e-mail this week that I had a package coming from Casemates.
When I opened it, I found this lovely bottle of Donati Claret. On the first pour it has a dark red color, that I am calling garnet, that is almost opaque in the glass. On the nose I get leather, tobacco, dark cherry and maybe a hint of some spices. Nothing too overstated.
The first sip is nice. I get cherry, maybe a bit of raspberry, along with the leather and tobacco I got on the nose. There is a small bit of dark chocolate that comes out at the end. It’s got a clean, dry finish. It is definitely not a fruity wine, but there is definitely the sense of stone fruit there with the cherry that is fruit without the sweetness that you get hit with on some of the red blends out there (not that that is a bad thing, just not what I would want in this type of blend). I waited a bit and had a second glass where there wasn’t much change except that it had opened up a bit more and the flavors were consistent.
On the second night, I poured a glass and it was just as good as the day before. My week was pretty busy so I didn’t have a chance to pair it with anything, but it should go well with most anything a normal medium bodied red would go with. It is definitely a solid medium bodied wine that I found easy to sip while reading and watching movies.
Definitely a solid wine at this price point!
Thanks again to Terry and everyone at WCC for the chance to rat again!
