This Old-World red blend of Old Vine Carignane and Grenache comes from vineyards in the North Coast. The grapes were picked by hand, 75% were de-stemmed with 25% Whole Cluster, and cold soaked for 5-10 days. We fermented each lot using native yeast in small open-top tanks, punch-down by hand, and aged in French Oak barrels. This wine is not fined or filtered. It has complex notes of boysenberry and earth, is rich and velvety on the palate, and finishes with fine tannins and balanced acidity.
Horse & Plow Winery merges the best of old and new-world techniques to produce authentic, hand-crafted wines from Northern California.
We started Horse & Plow in 2008 to merge the best of old and new-world techniques and produce authentic, hand-crafted wines. Together, we draw on our different backgrounds and talents to craft original wines from organic grapes. We utilize organic farming, small lot fermentations, and traditional techniques to make balanced, food-friendly, and site-specific wines.
Our organic vineyards dot the North Coast of California; including Sonoma, Napa & Mendocino Counties. We work exclusively with growers who are committed to superior quality by using certified organic and/ or biodynamic techniques. These sustainable practices allow us to craft wines with greater complexity and a sense of place while caring for worker health and the environment.
Organic doesn’t stop when the grapes get to the winery- our wines are made naturally with no synthetic nutrients or additives, no GMOs, are vegan ,and contain low sulfites. Most importantly, we make great wine! From crisp whites to rich reds, we have a wine to please every palate!

Morning all! Pardon any messy formatting, I’m doing this on my phone early in my morning before coffee, and I am not a morning person.
As always, thanks Alice and Casemates for the surprise treat of a lab rat!
I’m not generally a big red wine person, though my roommate likes them. I usually like Grenache blends though, while he doesn’t. He’s more likely to go for a Beaujolais when he wants a lighter red. Roommate went down a rabbit hole researching the Carignan grape, and found it was mainly popular in the 1980s but has declined since. It wasn’t one either of us recognized offhand. (https://www.jancisrobinson.com/learn/grape-varieties/red/carignan for those curious)
Popped this out of the box and did a quick taste (as it showed up Friday, didn’t really have time to mess around). Surprisingly light on the nose, a touch of smokiness, a bit grape-y and a slight punch of alcohol. A careful test sip found it very light in tannins, not sweet at all. There’s a pleasant fruit taste to it.
We let it breathe for about half an hour while dinner cooked (lemon herb grilled chicken with hollandaise sauce, peas, and baguette. Perfect lazy French dinner!)
Once it opened up, there’s a little bit of a tannin backbone after all. Definitely not enough to put me off, but enough that Roommate started getting more into it.
It’s a very easy sipper. Even as someone I who rarely finishes an entire glass of red, I found it dangerously drinkable.
Pics to come later in the morning once I’m at the computer, i usually just paste them in from discord but that’s not working, and I want more sleep.

Good morning!
On initial pop n pour, the wine is quite purple in color and very clear. Appears light to medium body by sight.
The initial nose is quite fruity, I’m getting black fruits, blackberry, almost jammy. The fruit is the only thing I get initially.
On the palate, the wine is nicely acidic, medium high acid and the tannins are mild but present. Finish is medium short. This is light bodied wine and easy drinking and would go great with food. I’m going to let it rest on the counter for few hours and come back.
3 hours later.
The nose it now much less fruit forward. The black fruits have diminished and dark red fruits are coming through now, and there is baking spice on the nose as well. Also some wood on the nose.
On the palate, still light bodied. The acid has mellowed and integrated better. Low tannins still. There is a mild salinity (or minerality?) that’s coming through also which is quite nice.
My wife says the wine is light in body like a Willamette Pinot Noir (but not in flavor). She got cherry and wood on the nose but she has a cold so she couldn’t get much else.
This is a food friendly, easy drinking crowd pleaser that I think will satisfy both wine snobs and casual wine people. It’s well made and hits way above it’s price point. I guessed a $15 Casemates price, so it’s a steal at the price offered. Enjoy!!
What is VMP?
VMP was the name of a previous membership program we offered. Current VMP members can continue their benefits - as long as they maintain membership. Since we’re closed to new VMP memberships, any cancelations are final, and there is no way to rejoin.
@InFrom@klezman@rjquillin - my credit card did get compromised and I updated it in my account but never got notice of any issues. I did go back and see the $5 monthly charge stopped a couple months ago. Ugh! I sure hope there’s some way to make this right again.
@InFrom@klezman@Lounglizard@rjquillin that happened to me a couple years ago I was a vip thru meh and I had a problem with my card, when I updated my status was vmp.

I really liked the 2019, but sadly I no longer have room for more wine and I’ve cut down my wine consumption over the past year!

As a comparison, we opened a 22 Lachini Pinot Noir ($50) as well and the Horse and Plow held it’s own and did not taste like a vastly cheaper wine.
Is there no free shipping for VIP peeps?
@Lounglizard Mehmbers vs VMP? I got free shipping on mine, and I’m VMP.
@Lounglizard Perhaps you’re thinking of VMP?
@rjquillin - Yes, autocorrect… all of my other orders have free shipping.
@Lounglizard
but not this one?
Are you still a VMP?
If so, I’d suggest contacting CS for assistance.
@Lounglizard @rjquillin FWIW, your icon is showing kickstarter backer rather than either VMP or Mehmber.
@klezman @Lounglizard @rjquillin By any chance, did your credit card expire? I’ve seen people get bitten by that.

@Lounglizard please reach out to casemates.com/support for assistance.
@Thumperchick - I have opened a ticket…we’ll see, hoping for the best. Just wish we could put a backup credit card on file.
