Announcing the third release of our new La Sirena label – Studio Series. In addition to being a winemaker, I have also been a painter and visual artist for many years. My mother, Diane Brisbois Peterson, was a professional artist, so I grew up immersed in artistic creativity as well as wine. Throughout my winemaking career, I have sought to explore creative avenues within the scientific discipline of wine, and blending has been one of the most fulfilling ways to do that. Studio Series is a Cab-forward winemaker blend that will feature a different painting of mine on the label each vintage. I’m proud to offer this new wine that shows off my creative work both inside and outside of the bottle. Welcome to my studio!

Deep ruby in color. The aromas show expressive fruit characteristics of Cab and Syrah – berry, cherry, and plum with nuances of French oak, blueberry, garden herbs, and tea leaves. The flavors are mouth-coating, vibrant, and lively. The fruity character of the aromas carries through in the flavors. Very streamlined silky tannins and mouthfeel across the palate. Tasty and inviting - This elegant work of winemaking artistry will delight with its richness and complexity for many years to come!
Owner/Winemaker Heidi Peterson Barrett is one of the world’s most renowned and respected winemakers. Since the 1980s, she has created some of the Napa Valley’s most famous wines, including Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Grace Family, Paradigm, and many others. Her career took off in the late 80s when she began working for Dalla Valle as an “independent winemaker”. She began to develop a tiny project called Screaming Eagle shortly afterwards, and from there, things escalated quickly. With 5 perfect 100-point scores for her wines in the span of just a few years, Heidi skyrocketed to international fame, setting a world record for the highest price ever paid for a single bottle of wine ($500,000 for a 6L of 1992 Screaming Eagle at the Napa Valley Wine Auction in 2000).

Why “La Sirena”? The name means “the Mermaid” in Spanish and Italian. I chose it because I’m a lifelong ocean lover, longtime scuba diver, and wanted a winery name that was fun & magical (like wine), and also personal to me. The first vintage of La Sirena was 1994, with the first Cabernet Sauvignon made in 1996. Our current wine lineup: Cabernet Sauvignon, Moscato Azul (dry Muscat Canelli), Rosato (rosé of Primitivo), Chardonnay, Malbec, and our red blends, Studio Series and Pirate TreasuRed. Production is always small, focusing on fine wines of purity and excellence. Wishing you all the best!

My butler was talking about this very wine this morning. But I was in such a hurry getting to my jet to get to the Maldives to day-trade that I just didn’t pay that close of attention. I’ll have to ask my sommelier if she can hook up with my cheesemonger so they can start figuring out the correct pairing when the Underhills come over for dinner.
@mattykillpatty Damn, this is more expensive than jet fuel. A 1000-gallon fill-up isn’t cheap.

The friendly goblins at Casemates dropped off a surprise for Halloween. No tricks here. Generally a Heidi Barrett wine is not typically a week night option . Actually not generally an option on weekends either, so this was a treat alright. And it was a delicious one.
La Sirena Studio Series 2019 Napa Valley Red Wine is beautiful in the bottle and in the glass, with dark ruby and touches of purple. Medium intensity aromas start with dark plum and blackberry, but the Syrah leans in with hints of leather right up front. As the wine opened up, tasters noted vanilla playing with cedar, earth, herbs and a slight floral to round out the bouquet.
The entry is welcoming with more expansive dark plum and blackberry on the palate. Medium acidity and gentle tannins provide good structure and also make this an easy wine to enjoy on its own. The finish lingers with more fruit and just an echo of licorice.
After a windswept day hiking through the Presidio woods, steaming hot minestrone soup was on the stove when we got home. The wine obliged - neither overpowering nor folding to the hearty bowlfuls. The crew consensus was that the wine actually worked well with a lighter meal, and we all agreed that it would be a wine we would happily enjoy without food - maybe even prefer it that way.
In describing this wine, “elegant” was consistent to all three tasters. It’s delicious, well balanced, nuanced and ready to enjoy now. I am excited to see more La Sirena wines on Casemates as a more attainable avenue to experience Barrett’s wines. Particularly if you can get a case share going. Cheers!

92 points. The 2019 Red Blend Studio Series is also terrific, with a plump, forward vibe in its darker currant-like fruit as well as underbrush, chocolate, and spicy aromas and flavors. With medium to full body and a ripe, round, nicely textured mouthfeel, it has ripe yet certainly present tannins, good acidity, and a great finish. It’s beautifully done and already hard to resist. The 2019 La Sirena Studio Series is a red blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Syrah, 3% Petite Sirah and 2% Cabernet Franc. This wine is deep ruby; the bouquet offers aromas of rose petals, raspberry and brambly characteristics. This bottling features balanced acidity with flavors of currant, red cherry, cranberry and finishes with a light touch of dried herbs and a dusty character. The tannins are gravelly in texture and ultimately outpace the fruit on the finish. They are not a dominating character on this balanced bottling. This is a refreshing, bright and energetic wine which shows very youthful 5 years post vintage at the time of our tasting. Pair with flank steak, a summer evening and a BBQ. Dave
