Aromas of rose petals, pomegranate, and a touch of nutmeg in the nose. A light body frames the flavors of cherry, plum, and vanilla with a touch of minerality and balanced acidity. A round smooth finish with lingering fruit flavors is offset by smooth tannins. An elegant Pinot Noir.
Russian River Valley Sources
The fruit for our Pinot Noir comes from two vineyards: Harrich and Brooks which are located in the northern area of the Russian River Valley. Pinot Noir grown in the cool climate of the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County is regularly influenced by the coastal influence. This natural nighttime air-conditioning allows the grapes to develop full flavor maturity over an extended growing season while retaining the all-important acidity.
A great start to the growing season was followed by a warm summer which gave the vines plenty of heat and even ripening, accelerating maturation. The fruit was picked on September 2. The result is a very aromatic and fruit forward Pinot Noir with balanced acidity.
Winemaking
Destemmed and crushed grapes go to temperature controlled fermenter for 5 days of cold soaking at ~50F (pre-fermentation) with a daily pump over for extraction of color, aromatics, and tannins. After that period fermentation starts. Fermenting at a temperature ~75F to better extract the aromatics of Pinot, during this time a regime of three pump overs a day is used to achieve the right extraction, until dry. Then pressed and sent to storage tanks and later moved to barrels for aging for 8 months.

2021 Pedroncelli Pinot Noir $20 = 11.10%
Medium Burgundy in the glass, violet edge. Looks young. Thick, slowly developing legs cling to the glass. A little hot on the nose, faint whiff of spice and raspberry. A hint of crème brulee and tobacco deep in the background, growing stronger with time and air. Fairly mild on the palate, medium bodied with soft cherry and raspberry notes. Slight tannic grip, long lingering herbal finish. Touch of cherry licorice at the very end. Despite a little heat on the nose, the wine is perfectly balanced on the palate.
After a little time in the fridge and a little air contact, the nose comes into focus with a little bit of forest floor and a hint of dark fruit like plum. Not the most aromatic wine, but the palate more than makes up for it. It is a perfect combination w/ Boeuf Bourguignon. Brings out an earthy note, acidity cuts through the richness of the stew, finishes with a stronger hint of baking spice and dried raspberry.
Over time it develops a rich, unctuous, briny saline note that is subtle and beguiling. Some tertiary flavors like graphite and warm earth after spring rain come into focus. I don’t think of pinot noir when I think of Pedroncelli, but this is really a lovely wine; well-structured and delicious! Many thanks to the Pedroncelli for surprising me with their varietal agility, to Alice and WCC for drawing my name out of the hat, and to Brown for coming through as a footnote rather than a headline. Salut!
Slight haze to the wine
Nose: hot, abv is noticeable. Violet, currents and slight eucalyptus. Overtime the abv calmed down and soft cedar notes started to show through
Medium viscosity
Taste; Intense initial burse of tart cherry and acid; not what I expecting with the wine being fairly reserved on the nose. Grippy tannins, with a medium-short finish.
I would have pegged this being $17-20 retail, and $15 on casemates.
An interesting wine, but a little disjointed for my taste
@finewiner I had the same opinion, but then I tried this offering. As rpm says below, it’s the right appellation for Pinot and Pedroncelli knows a thing or two about grape growing and vinification, not to mention a pretty hefty discount…
@KitMarlot I don’t question it might be good. I’m just not a big Pinot fan very few Pinos appeal to me and the ones that do seem to be very expensive. I’ve had far too many bad Pinos over other wines probably more of a preference thing.
@finewiner Fair point, it’s a temperamental grape and the market was flooded with insipid bottlings after ‘Sideways’ came out. Stick around, Pedroncelli is a fairly regular contributor to this space.
@KitMarlot Yea, been buying since Woot but it’s been a while here. Next time I stock up. Big issue is there is a bug in CM’s system and I no longer get the email notices on releases. I wish there were a way to get texts on Pedro wines:) Or any for that matter. Great wines for the money.
@chipgreen@finewiner@KitMarlot@rjquillin I’m almost always in bed before new offers go live, but I tend to update the “Case Savings” thread early the following morning.
Yes this is sentimental, but Pedroncelli have been such great Friends to this community from the very beginning - thinking of Jim taking us for an early morning walk through the vineyard - … not passing up this offer.

@KitMarlot any time a rat uses the word beguiling it’s an auto buy for me! Great rattage, thank you!
Happy for the opportunity to Rat again!

@KingKoopa it’s disjointed and not very Pinot like
I should’ve listened to you
But for their cabs, which are not a wine I prefer, I’ll pretty much order anything Pedroncelli sells here!
Please bring more Pedro. not a fan of this but will buy anything else they make. Let’s go!

This is really Great Juice. So glad I jumped in on a case. QPR is off the chart.
Meh. Very pedestrian and not varietally correct tbh
@losthighwayz Ok glad you got that off your chest thanks for your input
