A fresh and delicious Prosecco Rosé with floral, pomegranate, and stone fruit characters.
Production Area
Areas dedicated to vine-growing in the north-eastern regions of Italy (Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions) with marly soils of alluvial origin rich in subsoil. The base wine cuvée is made from a blend between Glera and Pinot Nero grapes
Secondary Fermentation
The white must and a small part of the red wine are mixed. The resulting cuvée with added yeast cultures selected by Villa Sandi is then put into vessels where fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 15-16°C to enhance all the harvest fragrances. Upon reaching the required alcohol and sugar content, fermentation is stopped by refrigeration. After being left for at least two months in contact with the yeasts, the sparkling wine is ready for bottling.
Winemaking
Whole white grapes are put into the pneumatic press for soft pressing and the resulting must, after a first racking, is put into controlled temperature tanks where it remains until it is used for the production of the sparkling wine. The red grapes, after pressing, are put into tanks where a soft maceration for extraction of color and a few tannins takes place at a controlled temperature of 22-23°C. At the same time the aroma is enhanced.

Excellent as an aperitif. Ideal companion of finger foods, pasta, delicate cheeses and small pastry.

Villa Sandi is headquartered in a Palladian-style masterpiece dating back to 1622, in the hills of the Marca Trevigiana, situated between the Prosecco of Valdobbiadene DOCG area and the Montello and Colli Asolani DOC area. The winery’s roots go back to the early 1920s, when Mario Polegato, grandfather of current president Giancarlo, bought vineyards and entered the wine market. The Villa itself was later discovered to have underground galleries that, after a trip to Champagne in the 1980s, Mario and Giancarlo decided to use for aging the estate’s first classic-method sparkling wines.
Today the estate is run by Giancarlo Moretti Polegato, who carries on the family tradition with respect for heritage alongside a focus on research and innovation, with the next generation of the family now also involved in the business. Beyond winemaking, Villa Sandi is a landmark for Italian wine culture, hosting sommelier courses, expert-led tastings, and lectures, and offering guided tours of its underground cellars, the Villa, and its gardens

The Sandi Rosé Il Fresco is a mix of mostly glera with some pinot nero to create its light coppery/pink colour. It has an attractive off-dry ten g/L of sugar, lightly fizzy palate-pitching candied strawberry, and baked red apple with a dusty, herbal, citrus undercurrent that cleans the back end. This is a ready-to-drink summer sipper you can serve solo or with tapas. (Anthony Gismondi).

Alas, missed a UPS delivery & just got this yesterday. Had some soccer-mom driving duties until late so did a quick taste (doing my labrat duty!) but was too tired to write up. Sorry for the delay.
First, on appearance - while this says rose, it is not what I typically think of for a rose. It’s more of an orange wine color. I have a friend who is an orange natural wine fan, and brings those over from time to time, and that is also the limit of my orange-wine knowledge. (I’ll try to add a photo later but want to get this post up)
Second, maybe influenced by the color, I thought it tasted like what I know of for orange wines (this my limited knowledge disclaimer) - a little funky but good. It’s fruity but earthy, and my tired brain couldn’t figure out more detail (also now going on pre-coffee memory) - same problem on nose. It’s not ‘too funky’ (what another friend sometimes says of our mutual friend offerings)
But, poor tasting details aside, I liked it and drank it. It’s crisp, dry, has an interesting flavor. I’ll try to have another glass later today but before this offer ends.
Reading the other tasting notes posted. Maybe got the peachy flavor, didn’t get the strawberry. Laughing about ‘cardboard’ - I’m not sure what that’s supposed to taste like but maybe that’s the ‘funky’ part
