How to legally sell some whisky
0(Or does WineDavid know WhiskyDavid?)
I have some bottles of whisky that I’ve decided are too expensive for me to drink, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to sell them.
Supposedly, the LA Whiskey Society will appraise and perhaps arrange a purchase, but after I filled out their form, they never got back to me.
Recently, I got an email from Acker Wines about a whiskey offering, so I thought why not and sent them a message.
The reply I got was:
Thanks for sending this over. We have a $5k minimum for buyouts, I would estimate these combined would be around $1300-1500. Let me know if you have anything else you would like to add.
So there’s hope.
Where else can I try?
I don’t know if Benchmark Wine also does spirits, and somewhere on one of their pages, I thought I read that they have a $10000 minimum for buying a collection.
Any ideas?

Lots of folks sell bourbon on the Wineberserkers commerce corner thread. You do need a minimum number of posts to use that, I believe…. Maybe 25.
How about K&L consignment?
They sell both whisky and wine, and auction wine;
perhaps they do the same with whisky?
@rjquillin I was going to suggest K&L also. They do have spirits auctions now.
You could also try asking @time2testit since he knows that part of the world pretty well. He might be able to hook you up with somebody directly.
@rjquillin @klezman I’ll give K&L a try.
(1) there are facebook groups that illegally sell whiskey
(2) unicorn auctions
@afwaller also, if you post what the bottles are here, I could tell you if they’ll sell. There’s for sure a whiskey glut right now, but some stuff always sells. For example, if it’s a lagavulin 16, no that will not sell. If it’s an octomore, yes, it will sell at the right price. If it’s an ECBP, no it will not sell. If it’s a pirate bottle or C923 though, yes, it will sell instantly if you price it right.
@afwaller Given that you are saying all these words that I don’t understand, probably nothing that you would say would sell. But these are the ones I had mentioned to Acker - most of the other things I’d be interested in selling right now are absinthes that I had couriered over from Europe at the time that Ted Breaux found an opening in the import laws to get absinthe into the US.

not much help here. maybe check winebid?
@Winedavid59 Winebid is all sell on consignment, isn’t it? I just want to sell the stuff, not get trapped in a “well, it didn’t sell this month, pay us for another listing” loop.
