Red Electra Moscato is garnet red, tastes of succulent cherry, berry, and peach, and has a slight sparkle. The Black Muscat in Red Electra Moscato delivers a subtle tartness that accompanies its sweet fresh fruit flavors perfectly. Try it with all kinds of desserts and cheeses including chocolate bon-bons, truffles, spiced holiday cookies, vanilla, and fruit.
Like Electra Moscato, Red Electra is more aromatic, crisp, and refreshing than other Moscato. Whereas most Moscato are made from Muscat of Alexandria, Red Electra is made up of Orange Muscat, Black Muscat, and Muscat Canelli. These varieties are more difficult to grow and bear smaller yields, but their aromas and flavors are more refined. To make Red Electra, a combination of free-run and pressed juice is fermented for more than a month at a low temperature, after which it is chilled, sterile filtered, and bottled. This process preserves its delicate flavors and slight fizz.
History
As the story goes, Quady winemakers first discovered Electra Moscato while they were tasting through the early stages of our famed Essensia Orange Muscat Dessert Wine. After the original Electra Moscato was introduced and met with an incredible following, ideas began to swirl around the thought of creating a red Moscato variation using the addition of Black Muscat - the rich aromatic grape used in our Elysium Black Muscat Dessert Wine. Red Electra was first bottled in 2000 and was the first Quady wine to include all three of the muscat varieties Quady had become well known for. Red Electra Moscato has climbed the ranks to become the number-one-selling Quady wine.

Grape Varieties: Orange Muscat, Black Muscat & Muscat Canelli
In a small San Joaquin valley town, Andrew Quady discovered an unused patch of the rare Orange Muscat grape varietal, known in Italy as Moscato Fior d’Arancio. These grapes became the first Essensia. This marked the birth of Quady Winery’s muscat expertise - where the rich flavors of rare muscat varietals are celebrated and intensified rather than blended and softened.
The varieties we use are rare, delicious expressions of the fruit-filled San Joaquin Valley. The winemaking style is rich, full-bodied, perfectly balanced, and unparalleled in any other muscat.

Warm winter greetings! Labrat checking into review the 2022 Quady Red Electra Moscato. The very welcomed email from Alice got me closely monitoring the UPS app to see the bottle delayed a day likely due to the midwest snowstorm and subsequent subfreezing temps we’ve been “enjoying” for the past fortnight. The bottle arrived unsurprisingly quite cold but the label on the screw cap bottle directs to serve chilled…
Thought I caught a slight hiss twisting it open – I could have imagined it but later saw the label said it is “delivered with a slight sparkle.” No noticeable bubbles in the bottle or poured into the glass though, no legs either. It has a light body and cranberry rose color, and a sweet distinctly floral scent. Almost like a perfume, I can still smell it from the glass on the table – “mysteriously aromatic” is no lie!
As advertised, it is sweet. It’s like a strawberry hibiscus, syrupy cherry cooler. The limited alcohol is nearly undetectable; if I’d have blind tested I’d have probably guessed it’s a seltzer and not even made from grapes. From a wine perspective it’s not my thing, but as an adult fruit juice it does seem refreshing – I could even see making a cosmopolitan or other summer cocktail for the adventurous.
To me this doesn’t go with food other than some fruits or cheese, but at the same time it doesn’t make sense to me to match sweet drinks with desserts anyway. I’d rather it be black coffee. I’m not sure that moscato falls into the dessert wine category but Red Electra would certainly be up to the challenge given the need. Or just chill it until the sun’s back out and down it by the pool, seems perfect for that.
Thanks WCC, WineDavid, Alice, and all for the chance to try something new and different, always a pleasure!

Mine is just a deeper orange. Enjoyed the heck out of those at the time but my palate has definitely changed since 2011!
I went through over 2 cases of the 375s from 2013 (gave most away as gifts) but still have one 750ml left from '11. Also one of the Black Muscat and two of the Batch 88 Starboard.
I remember using the Orange Electra in place of OJ to make a smoothie one time. It was good.
Our house vermouth is Quady “Vya” Sweet Vermouth, so last time we drove up 99 i hoped we would have enough time to stop off and try some of the unfortified wines. Alas, we didn’t. Maybe next time.
I was hoping this would be lower calories since it’s only 5.5% alcohol, but the rat pic shows 150 calories (it is odd that a wine has nutrition info on the label). I guess the residual sugar adds a lot of calories!
@TimW I’m aware that there is a new EU requirement for labels with listed allergens, with ingredients and nutrition available via a link. Maybe Quady is big in Europe?
I’m all for the allergen listing, as i have friends that are vegan and dairy allergic, for whom knowing the clarifying agent is important.
But that’s also beside the point here – they’re labeling and their US customers must prefer it. Good for them! Maybe this isn’t “our” style of wine, but more wine production/consumption is good for everyone, right?
@radiolysis I wish all wine and beer had labeling like that…I usually want to know how many calories I’m consuming in a drink so I’ll know if it is (mentally) “worth it” to me.
Today I have been handed a bottle of Quady’s Red Electra Moscato.
This low alcohol, 5.5%, very sweet, slightly sparkling wine is… sweet. This might make a good aperitif or desert wine. With very bright sweet cherry and pomegranate notes it’s not something for the dry at heart. I had an uncle who would blend his own sweet/sweet wine. That is this. I don’t have much to say. It’s simply sweet and fruity. And with 25g sugar (150 calories) per 5oz serving you might understand why. I can appreciate desert wine, I can appreciate an aperitif. This isn’t for me.
That 90 point WE review is for the white/orange, whatever you want to call it. Not the red. That being said, back in my wine shop days, we sold the cr*p out of the Quady wines
Not only was this wine 90 points from WE but also a Best Buy
90 points. This wine is rich, supple and full bodied with aromas of black-cherry cream soda, star anise, vanilla-spiced orange cream and cardamom. Other notes waft through, including strawberry cream soda, strawberry-rhubarb jam, quince paste, pink peppercorn and orange zest. Great choice for a light red wine with lower ABV. Pair with your favorite meals that pack some heat. — Tonya Pitts 7/1/24
The other WE 90 was indeed the white, their orange is the Essensia dessert wine.

Now some Red to go with my vintage Orange and Black
@rjquillin is the orange old enough that it’s started to look black?
@klezman I think I might even know where it is to go and look; but not tonight.
