Started off with a bad hard spring frost on April 12th during bud break. Low-lying vineyards lost 90%. Hilltop vineyards 10%. A prolonged heat spike just before harvest caused some deterioration in the fruit causing us to adapt our fermentation protocols. Luckily, we received a good rain in mid-harvest that gave the vines much-needed moisture. I always feel the best wines in Amador are always made after the first fall rain. We held off on harvesting our reds during the heat spell and brought in 90% after the first rain. Look for dark flavorful wines with firm tannins.
In the 50ās and 60ās Zinfandel was known as the Claret of California red wine. Primitivo and Zinfandel share the same chromosomal makeup, one coming from southeastern Italy and the other from California. Even though they have the exact same chromosomal makeup, the Primitivo produces more of a Pinot Noir-like delicate style wine.
Enjoy this Claret-style Primitivo with grilled chicken and picnic grilled red meats.

2022 Scott Harvey The Griffin Society Tempranillo
Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes: Fruit forward, rich full flavors expressing both the varietal and the Amador Terroir. This complex spicy floral wine expressing ripe cherry, strawberry, light vanilla bean, baking spices, and white pepper has a finish of velvety tannins.
Vineyard/Vintage Notes
Amador County is extremely well suited to Tempranillo. Coming from a similar climate area of Spain, Amador County is rapidly becoming known as one of the best wine-growing regions in California for Tempranillo.
In the mountainous high-elevation vineyards of Amador County 2022 started off with a bad hard spring frost on April 12th during bud break. Low-lying vineyards lost 90%. Hilltop vineyards 10%. A prolonged heat spike just before harvest caused some deterioration in the fruit causing us to adapt our fermentation protocols. Grown at the winery in the heart of Amador County. This is a one-acre vineyard that produces low-yielding small berry bunches. Not much of it, but extractive yummy grapes.

After decades of creating and crafting premium wines for wineries like Santino and Folie a Deux ā and putting Amador County on the map as a world-class appellation ā Scott Harvey launched his own winery in 2004. With decades of winemaking experience on two continents, itās no wonder his wines have become an immediate sensation. Itās an overnight success 35 years in the making. (Oh, and Scottās not too shabby with a pen, either.)

As a long term wine club member, I have consistently, since the release of the Griffin series, been told these are club only releases and are considered a step up from either the mountain or J&S Reserve bottlings.
And the pricing here smokes club pricing.

Hi Everyone, This is a one time offering on the Griffin Society wine club wines. As you know times are hard right now in the wine business. Normally these wines are only offered to Club members. Of course Casemates always gets special pricing. But, cash is king and we need to pay our bills. So, this is a one time offering. If you take this opportunity and taste the wines, we hope you join the Griffin Society.
Sorry, gang, but rattage is delayed. My bottle went from northern California to Louisville and back before being reshipped to me in SoCal. It is due to arrive today, time unknown.
@rpstrong Update: Connected with a bottle of the '22 Petite Sirah, which was delicious indeed.
Upon PnP: Distinctively inky, but my color vision only allows me to opine that it was āredā. No nose at first, but floral (violet) aromas after a bit of swirling.
A bit of funk on first tasting that went away almost as soon as Iād tasted it. Blueberry and dark fruit flavor, mildly peppery finish. Smooth but pronounced tannins.
Paired predictably well with a grilled New York strip and green beans with almonds.
My case of Scott Harvey wines from the last casemates offering just arrived today. Having never had Scott Harvey wines before, Iāll have to dig into these before ordering another case. Bummer that itās a one time offering, but best of luck.
@klezman there were a few different codes accompanying meh.com purchases this year, one from wine spritzers, and an offering from Dragon-something. Just yesterday, the Cheer 2022 case included a $20 coupon for use here (but that expires next year).
@caffeineguy@jchasma@Skarsol I am highly entertained that the relatively meh wine is getting more discussion here than the amazing Scott Harvey wine! Buy all of the Scott Harvey!!
@caffeineguy@jchasma@klezman I snagged a 6 pack, would have been in for a case but they were sold out. Itās looking like the Friends blend instead of the Classico of last year, still should be great QPR though!
@caffeineguy@jchasma@klezman@Skarsol First time over to meh to check this out. I guess Iām sorry I missed it, but bad shipping window. I need to dig out my EHP ā¦
This week my Scott Harvey casemates order and my Scott Harvey black friday order arrived, now I have another case coming. Great wine, killer price. Thanks Scott!
FWIW over the past two nights I have enjoyed the 2021 Scott Harvey Zinfandel and Barbera from the recent offering. Typically I let them sit for a couple of weeks but not this time. Both exceptional in my opinion. Really balanced right from the pnp, no heat. Did improve to my palate over a couple of hours in decanter. No wine has ever lasted til day 2 in this house so no comment there. The Commissioner and I both liked them more than the 2020s. We liked the new labels as well. The back labels show a scale from ājammyā to āelegantā with indication that these are on the elegant side. I would concur I suppose. Looking forward to trying the old vine and the Griffins.
In any kind of normal time the Scott Harvey offerings are usually an autobuy for me, but itās xmastime and I am out of a job, so Iāll have to sit this one out. Sorry to hear times are tough in the wine world, but that makes two of us.
Hi Everyone, Appreciate all the talk. Woke up in Northern California to a badly needed rain storm. Hope it keeps coming. Our vineyards survive on ground water that comes throughout the winter. Also excited for the snow pack. Growing up here I became a skier at 7 years old. Now at 70 years old Iām teaching my grandchildren to ski. Cheers, Scott
@getinthemix@klezman I think part of it is that there have been so many good deals on great wine here in the last month or so. Zeppelin, Qupe, Winesmith, Onesta, Gruet, then the Ped on Meh the other day. I should just stop looking, but I wonāt.
@klezman@Winedavid59 I suspect some of these sales are inventory reduction by the end of FY2024, which is why they all seem to have the same shipping window.

@Nel250 Interested in splitting this one, too?
@nel250 I bought the case so, just let me know. No obligation of course.

@mattig88 Sounds good, Iām
In for the split.
@Nel250 Great! Delivery dates shouldnāt be too far apart; we can exchange both at the same time.
@Nel250 received the Scott Harvey shipment today. Did you get the other case yet? I should be able to meet up later this week if so.
Primitivo states 2021 in specs. Iām assuming that is incorrect
@kaolis They are all 2022. Sorry for the miss print.

I guess Iāll burn up my last 2024 coupon codeā¦ Iāve heard great things about these and the FOMO force is strong here.
@caffeineguy Little help on the coupon code?
@klezman there were a few different codes accompanying meh.com purchases this year, one from wine spritzers, and an offering from Dragon-something. Just yesterday, the Cheer 2022 case included a $20 coupon for use here (but that expires next year).
@caffeineguy @klezman
Yeah, Iāve misplaced and not used mine either
@caffeineguy @klezman I missed CHEER?!? Say it isnāt so! Weāve been sick this week and definitely didnāt check in due to my fever brain.
@jchasma @klezman Hurry up, there is still some left
@caffeineguy @jchasma @klezman And itās gone!
@caffeineguy @klezman @Skarsol snagged a 6 pack phew
@caffeineguy @jchasma @Skarsol I am highly entertained that the relatively meh wine is getting more discussion here than the amazing Scott Harvey wine! Buy all of the Scott Harvey!!
@caffeineguy @klezman @Skarsol Iām not surprised. Weāre all broke.
@caffeineguy @klezman The Cheer code doesnāt work. Maybe because it needs to be 2025??

Is Scott Harvey the wine maker for these bottles or Mollie? Previous post he indicated 2023 he took duties back.
@i8dacat Not sure how much it mattersā¦Scott was overseeing it all as āexecutive winemakerā during that time.
@i8dacat @klezman and Iger was executive chairman for Chapek after he retired from CEO of Disney.
Sometimes, it does matter.
@i8dacat
I am the winemaker on these. I took back over a year and a half ago. Cheers, Scott
It does matter! I would like to know as well, who is the winemaker? It influences me should I buy or notā¦
In any kind of normal time the Scott Harvey offerings are usually an autobuy for me, but itās xmastime and I am out of a job, so Iāll have to sit this one out. Sorry to hear times are tough in the wine world, but that makes two of us.
Merry Christmas to me! In for a case. Canāt go wrong with any of Scottās offerings.
Cheers! shivering-decent-heart
Hi I am looking for someone in Syracuse, NY to split a case. I have alot of Scott Harvey but am hoping to add these to my list.

@klezman @woopdedoo honestly, we are so blitzed in our warehouse. it may take a while.
@klezman @Winedavid59 excellent! and Merry Christmas, my friend!
