2022 Strala Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc - $65 = 27.08%
Hello! Luke, the winemaker from Kivelstadt Cellars in Sonoma here. Lovely Friday evening getting to Rat this wine with a busy harvest week on the horizon.
The 2022 vintage that this wine is from is quite infamous for its mild summer followed by a 10 day heat wave around Labor Day in Northern California, with most days reaching 110 degrees and higher in certain areas.
This wine certainly wasn’t the most complex, but it had loads of citrus, on both the nose and palate. I got a real nice chill on this and sipped on a couple glasses while grilling in the backyard. Went solidly with tomato and corn salad and grilled flank, the acid lifting everything nicely. It was a good addition to a great Friday night. It showed its heat more later in the evening, but remained bright and quenching.
Would I pay $65 for this like its retail price? Hah, never. But $15-20? Now we can have a conversation. Especially being from a “rough” vintage in NorCal, this wine was solid. It’s not going into the cellar, but throw a few in the wine fridge for the remaining warm weeks (months maybe, depending where you are!) of summer weather.
