Customer will receive Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley from Vintages 2013-2019.
2013 Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Tasting Notes
The Cabernet Sauvignon of 2013 from this iconic vineyard site, although similar to the previous great growing season, seems more plush and bolder, in contrast to the more fruit-forward style of the 2012 vintage. “The typical spearmint, menthol character of our later ripening, cooler blocks that make up the Two Old Dogs Wines is almost absent in the 2013 vintage – making this vintage a junior version of the signature HL wines more than any other”, says winemaker Michael Trujillo. “This is a very sophisticated wine, a serious contender with great color, more Baker’s chocolate and dusty cocoa, black currant, licorice, and dried cherry. It is lush and round and more layered with great velvety length, making the 2013 Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon one of the most successful wines to ever come off the cooler blocks of the Herb Lamb Vineyards.” Drink in 6-8 years, although it may be able to last much longer.

2014 Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Tasting Notes
The 2014 Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon reminds us of the earlier vintages of this wine, reflecting more of the cooler sections of the north-east facing Herb Lamb vineyard. It shows a little of the typical herbal/menthol, chocolate mint character, but with a deep, rich nose. Winemaker Michael Trujillo says, “This wine has a great entry with lots of blue and red fruits of cherry, currant, and raspberry, and a tea leaf and blueberry character in the fruit, which highlights the lushness of the wine. This wine is well balanced and very approachable and expressive, silky smooth, plush and elegant in the mouth, with no edges.”

2015 Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Tasting Notes
Winemaker Michael Trujillo calls this “A classic vintage, but a bit more opulent and fruit forward than the 2014, showing deeper blue and red fruits of dried cherry and black raspberry. There is a tobacco leaf and herbal character in the fruit, which highlights the lushness of the wine. This wine is well balanced and very approachable, plush and juicy in the mouth, but with greater depth and more of a leathery character than the previous vintages.”
The difficult growing season gave this wine more structure and focus with more masculine characteristics. It shows great layers of fruit with a lengthy finish, and should continue to develop and mature in the bottle for years to come. The use of 80% new French Oak is reflected in the dusty cocoa mid-palate, but the oak is well-integrated for further aging.

2016 Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Tasting Notes
The aromatics are amazing on this vintage, with a deep black cherry, ripe plum, spice, mineral, and pencil lead character. The very forward nose shows bright black cherry and cola, with a hint of sweet spices and herbs, and a touch of vanilla from the 65% new French oak. There is a striking aromatic presence, with flavor profiles that lean towards darker and denser fruit extractions.
In the mouth, the depth in the nose is confirmed with more black raspberry, sweet, blue fruit, minerals, and dense black cherries and ripe plums. There is still a wonderful freshness, showing a good acid balance and soft tannins, but a denseness to this wine. According to Winemaker Mike Trujillo, “Across the board, the 2016 Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon is a showier vintage than the 2014 and 2015, and jumps out of the glass with ripe fruit and bold expression of its mountain terroir. It shows amazing aromatics, fresh black cherry, lots of red and blue fruit, a big body, and good weight in the mouth.

Trying to read between the lines here, so Herb Lamb fruit up until the 2017, 2018 vintage? And who owned what when? Perhaps I’m overthinking?? Ha!
A little blurb here
@kaolis
In the Casemates write-up, it appears that the '13 & '14 are Herb Lamb single vineyard bottlings. '15 through '18 just say “Napa Valley”, while the '19 says “Napa Valley - Oak Knoll District”.
2019 Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Dark burgundy color, clinging to the glass. Interesting and copious nose of dark fruits and mild spice. Dark cherries and gushing plum flavors with granite and/or graphite, and rounding out with slight vanilla. Drinks perfectly on its own.
@halwarning@rjquillin@Winedavid59 Considering prior offers, it’s anyone’s guess. Even when the stated intention is not to duplicate bottles in a case (which has not been stated here, as far as I can tell), there’s been many a slip. People are only human, it turns out.
@halwarning@InFrom@rjquillin@Winedavid59
I would speculate that there are more bottles available from recent vintages than older ones. Note that both Rats had the 2019. Also they produced 700 cases of the newer vintages, vs 400-500 of the earlier ones.
@chipgreen@halwarning@InFrom@rjquillin@Winedavid59 I know it’s old sour grapes, but international case of pancakes/disappointment from a few years ago was just 2 ea of whatever they unboxed. No magical $50+ premium bottle. And most of the others were um, not good. So that was a big failure. Hard to imagine the ongoing negative impact on future sales. Yes I know it was a completely different offer and several years ago.
2019 Two Old Dogs Napa Saint Helena Cabernet Sauvignon
This showed up a couple of days ago without explanation. A day later I got the note that a bottle would be coming. Oh, well, can’t always get things in proper order.
The bottle was the 2019 Two Old Dogs Cab. At 4:16 Thursday I pulled the cork. It had a lot residue on it, and so did the inside of the bottle. I tasted the wine, and found it quite agreeable, with blackberry tones predominating. It was too warm, so into the refrigerator it went.
At 16:45 I tried it again, and there was not much difference. Still blackberry tones overriding, and a long finish. It now had a fuller flavor, but not otherwise much changed. But a loonng finish.
It went well with dinner, which was buckwheat galettes (crepes) with a filling of creamed blue cheese and walnuts. The creamed cheese filling went well with the wine, with the nuts and cheese contrasting nicely with the wine.
The wine is excellent, basically what you’re looking for in a solid red.
Sorry to put this on this thread, but I want to get this deal, but ran into a problem when checking out with Casemate not honoring the Mystery Case Coupon Offering back in May. The offering clearly stated that one coupon per case ordered, and Wine David himself confirmed this as much in the thread. I just so happened to have two identical codes (30% Off coupon) and now the system is not honoring the second coupon. I just replied again (10th email back and forth) and keep getting the same answer that the discount was only for one time use. If this is the case then why made the offer for multiple coupons? Wine David, please get your team together as this is getting ridiculous?
@hvsanmateo You might benefit from the expertise of @Thumperchick. She’s been able to check on people’s coupons before. Maybe just email CS again, asking them to bring her into the loop?
@InFrom@Thumperchick@Winedavid49 Thank you both to @halwarning and @InFrom. Just a quick update, got a coupon code for $20, but the 30% Coupon is equal to $77.70 for today case deal. That is $57 difference. So replied to the 12th email back and forth. Still hoping @Winedavid49 can help out, as @halwarning stated he/she was able to have the same code worked twice. Fingers crossed.
@CruelMelody@dawnlac Sorry, you are correct. It was $30. As I mentioned, a lots of back and forth added some frustrations - my mistake and thank you for pointing it out!!!
2015 Two Old Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon
Screw top bottle. Deep garnet color. Long sticky legs. Nose is restrained with notes of dry herbs (subtly sage), leather, tobacco, and dark cherry. The cab body is a bit thin with moderate tannin and acidity. Alcohol is integrated. The mouth feel is slightly juicy, but not especially fruity. Dark berries and herbs. Tart. Not a ton of depth or lingering flavor.
Overall this Cab Sauv lacks character and boldness that I generally prefer. It drinks fine, but doesn’t impress.
I did receive the wine on short notice and will follow up on any changes after being open for a day.
@mtnzj keep us posted on updates. Sometimes with a wine as old as 2015 it will take a while. It might bring out new flavors and scents . Or just hang out and say “meh!”

This is too complicated for my wine addled brain. If I cant figure out what I’m getting, I pass.
Wine up on Meh, less complicated. Familiar one: Desert Wind Ruah, 2019
Is the goal to give case buyers at least one of each until a particular year runs out?
@halwarning @WineDavid59
This would be a good target.
Any chance that’s how the packing will go?
Considering prior offers…
@halwarning @rjquillin @Winedavid59 better yet, with a little luck, you won’t get a 2017…
